Somalia’s Ministry of Interior and Federal Affairs has backed the Tuesday’s announcement by some members of Galmudug State Assembly to oust the state president Ahmed Duale Gelle Xaaf.

In a sudden statement, the State Minister of Interior and Federal Affairs said “Federal Government calls for respect of the decision reached by the Galmudug lawmakers today on Tuesday 26th of September and respect for the rule of the law.”

In that statement, the state minister also warned against political crisis and the acts against the security in the region.

The statement was put out shortly after members of Galmudug State Assembly on Tuesday afternoon met in hotel in Adado and announced to have sacked president Xaaf. The meeting was chaired by the deputy Speaker of Galmudug State Assembly.

NULL AND VOID

President Xaaf rejected the announcement as “null and void” as it is against the state’s constitution.

“Their decision is contrary to the Galmudug Constitution, which prohibits any motion against the president during first six months in office,” President Xaaf said in a press briefing in Adado on Tuesday. “I was elected in May and only served four months as president of Galmudug State.”

He alleged the Federal Government of fueling the rift within Galmudug leaders.

Mr. Xaaf and other regional states of Puntland and South West leaders opposed Federal Government’s position toward the Gulf diplomatic crisis in which Mogadishu stood on neutral position. Last week, the cabinet of the ministers warned the local states have nothing to do with the nation’s foreign policy.
