An Indian cargo ship Al Kaushar was hijacked by Somali pirates with 11 crew members onboard when it was on its way from Dubai to Yemen’s Al Mukala port. The incident happened on Saturday evening, April 1, and it has been reported that the Somali pirates were armed and were responsible for the hijack.
As per the reports, the captain of the hijacked ship informed the authorities in Dubai about the incident. It has also been reported that the Ministry of External Affairs has also been notified about the hijacking of the Indian ship. All 11 crew members on the ship belong to Mandavi in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The other naval authorities have also been alarmed about the hijacking. Action will soon be taken to rescue the Indian crew members onboard the ship, Times Now reported. Pirate attacks on cargo ships are quite a menace and it is very difficult to track activities of miscreants who ransack duty ships on international waters.
