A police officer will plead on Thursday to terrorism charges in relation to the Kapenguria police station attack that left eight dead.
Abdi Ali alias Abdimunaf Jelle was accused of posting words on his Facebook page on July 16, with the aim of supporting terror.
His charge sheet states that he wrote in Kiswahili: ” hahahaha ati wanatuita Al Shabaab, hawa ni bure kijana kidogo kurutu anahangaisha station muzima na kama commando kama mimi wote ningewamaliza bro.”
This translates to: “They call us al Shabaab, these people are useless, a young man holding a whole police station hostage, a commander like me would have taken them all out.”
The officer was charged with incitement to terrorism when he appeared before Milimani senior principal magistrate Martha Mutuku on Wednesday
It is alleged that Jelle incited a group of people to carry out a terrorist act on the same date.
An ATPU officer said the suspect was arrested on July 19 in Embu town.
Sergeant Eric Mwiti asked the magistrate to deny the accused bond on grounds that he would tamper with witnesses.
Those killed in the attack at the police station in West Pokot were OCS Vitalis Ochido, Wilson Karani, Katana Kitu, Gideon Ochieng, Robert Kinyua, Cornelius Rono and Recce Squad officer Dennis Momanyi .
Multiple sources said the police constable who staged the attack on July 14 was angry that his boss re-assigned him other duties.
